The society is about the village and for the village. It holds a very large archive of articles, photos, maps and information about the village and many interesting artefacts on display in the Village Hall.
Since its inception the Society has produced:
a millennium book of those who lived in the village that year: “Longhorsley and its People”
a record of all monumental inscriptions in the old St Helen's churchyard
three village/parish trail leaflets
a book of 100 old photos of the village
a book on Emily Wilding Davison, the Suffragette, her time in Longhorsley
a fascinating book about the village in WW2
These topics and much more are shown on our informative website.
We hold meetings from September to June on alternate months. All are welcome, we serve refreshments before the meeting at 7pm and talks start at 7.30pm. It costs £15 per couple for the year, £10 per person or individual visits are £3.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 9th September, our speaker is Noel Hodgson with “Heron’s Flight, Battle of Flodden, 1513”.
The Society is for the village, but can only survive with support from the village, so please do come along and hear some very interesting talks on a variety of subjects. We are happy to take suggestions for talks and are always willing to answer questions about the village if possible.
Why not give it a try?
Penny Ford, Chairman
