We’ve also confirmed some exciting additions for this year, including free face painting, some local food trucks and a climbing wall!

We have a vacancy on the Village Hall Committee for a secretary.

To mark the historic 80th anniversary of VE Day, celebrating 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe that so many millions paid the ultimate sacrifice to achieve, we will commemorate by flying the VE Day 80th Anniversary flag at 9am and the lighting of the Beacon on the village green will take place at 9.30pm.
It would be nice to see as many people as possible from the village join us for the beacon lighting.
Every English Parish, by law, must hold an Annual Parish Meeting/Assembly, which is a relatively informal event for the whole community.
This is an opportunity for the Parish Council to report to its electorate what it has accomplished in the preceding year. It is also an opportunity for residents to ask questions and provide feedback to the Council.
The Longhorsley Annual Parish Assembly will take place on Wednesday 28th May at 6.30pm in the Village Hall – this is your chance to air your views or indeed to raise any issues. All are welcome.
We have been informed by Ascent Homes that they will be looking to commence work on the development in early June, and not in April as previously communicated.
The date for the public development engagement event will be communicated once confirmed.
By the time the Tree is published our weather may have taken a turn for the worse - we usually get a lambing storm in April - but now it’s glorious sunshine.
This summer the smaller roads are due a £150,000 facelift which will improve some of the worst bits.
If I make it on May 1st then I will look forward to helping you but if not then thanks for all the friendliness I’ve always been shown which I will always remember.

This month we should see the return of our resident swifts. Unlike swallows and house martins, swifts do not make nests out of mud on the side of your house, or in a porch. Instead, they nest in tiny crevices around your roof, similar to bats.
In the village we have around 16 birds and they can be seen well into the evening, flying round in a group issuing a very high pitched call or ‘scream’.
Our nest box scheme is hopefully going to provide them with lots more spaces for nesting, with boxes located near to existing colonies. If you do think you have swifts nesting in your house, or want to learn more, please feel free to get in touch.
