Thanks and Help April 2023

Can You Help?

Northumbrian Hedgehog Rescue

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who has kindly donated newspapers already. Your help is very much appreciated. Please can we have any newspapers that you no longer want!

At the Hedgehog Rescue Centre in Longframlington we use shredded newspaper as bedding for the injured, sick and very small hedgehogs that are brought in to us.

Once again we are running short of newspapers, in part caused by the closure of the access road from the A697 to the Hedgehog Rescue Centre to facilitate work on the new housing developments. Fewer people are bringing newspapers to the centre because of the long detour involved. Also, fewer people are buying hard copies of newspapers, in stead accessing the news online, environmentally laudable but it doesn’t help the hedgehogs!!!

If you or anyone you know has newspapers (no magazines please!) please leave them in the porch in a plastic bag at: 5, Church View or text me on  0772 4091586 and I will come and collect them.

Please take care when starting to work in your gardens this Spring particularly if using strimmers, leaf blowers and lawn mowers! Try to check first under bushes, long grass and in leaf piles for hedgehogs. We are already getting ones in with severe injuries caused by the machines. One recent little chap had lost an ear and had the side of his head badly cut with a strimmer.

Thank you so much for all your continued support of our hedgehogs. If you would like any further info or would like to help in any way please look on our website hedgehogs-northumbria.org.uk

With very many thanks, Jan Bryce
