Carl Powell joins the Lodge

Friday 2nd September and we were ready to start our first meeting after the summer break. The meeting was opened by the Acting Master Michael Walkden at 6.30pm. The usual administrative business of the meeting was concluded and the members prepared to welcome another new member into the Lodge.

Mr Carl Powell was then admitted into the Lodge and Initiated into Freemasonry. He became the newest member of Lodge of Endeavour in a ceremony carried out by Michael Walkden, acting as Master and the Lodge Officers. On this occasion Daniel Howe was in his chair as the Senior Warden and David Grime acted as Junior Deacon. Carl was led round the Lodge room by David Grime, who made him feel at ease and relaxed as he progressed through the ceremony. The address at the NE corner was given by Jim Bennett; he also received a presentation on behalf of the Lodge Mentor, Alan Howarth, by Michael Walkden, explaining the various points of the ceremony. The explanation of the First degree tools was given by David Grime.

Carl then listened to a presentation of the first degree charge which was given by Nick Heaton-Moon, the Lodge Junior Warden. Carl was also presented with a copy of the ceremony and the Lodge development pack, which had been prepared by Michael Walkden. It contained extracts of the ceremony and an explanation of procedures, to help him understand the work within the Lodge. The ceremony concluded with a welcome from the Group Chairman, John Rimmer, who welcomed Jamie as the newest member of the Lodge and more particularly the Preston Group. He wished him well in his future Masonic journey.

As usual after the meeting, everyone enjoyed an excellent meal and jovial company in the dining room. The kitchen team had prepared an excellent meal, which was enjoyed by all and the team were thanked for the quality of the food and service. All present took the opportunity to wish Carl well as he started his membership within the Lodge. As usual there was a raffle to raise money for Charity, the proceeds (£106) were gratefully received by the Charity Steward.
