Installation of a New Worshipful Master - Monday 20th December, 2021

This year the Lodge of Endeavour installation meeting was special, as Michael Walkden installed his son Carl, into the Master’s chair. Michael was the Worshipful Master when Carl was Initiated into the Lodge and also presided over the ceremonies as he progressed up to the rank of Master Mason. The ceremony had been altered in accordance with the advice of Provincial Grand Lodge, to cover Covid19 requirements. On this occasion, the lodge was honoured by the presence of David Winder, Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master, who represented the Provincial Grand Master, he was accompanied by the Preston Group Chairman, John Rimmer and Steve Bolton.

Those attending the meeting witnessed an excellent ceremony as Carl was duly installed as Master of the lodge, by his father, Michael Walkden, who proposed Carl as a member of the Lodge, and other members of the lodge. At the start of the ceremony, Carl was presented to the installing Master by John Gavaghan, his seconder when he joined the Lodge. John also gave the address to the newly installed Master.

The working tools of the third degree were presented by Charlie Sweeney, the second degree by Stuart Simpson and first degree by Alan Howarth, all of whom gave first class presentations.

The addresses to the various officers of the Lodge were given as follows: - to the Wardens by Jim Bennett; to the Deacons, John Whittaker. The final address, that to the lodge brethren, was given by the principal guest, David Winder.

At the conclusion of the Installation Ceremony, David Winder brought the congratulations of the Provincial Grand Master on what had been a first class ceremony. He particularly mentioned the contribution of the working tools team and the support given by all the members of the lodge. He was then presented with three cheques totalling £300 made out as follows: Derian House – £100; Saint Catherine’s Hospice £100; and Leyland Veterans Society £100, in memory of Tony Sterling.

The Festive board after the meeting was enjoyed by all. The menu had been chosen by Carl and consisted of Melon; Goujons of Plaice; Roast Beef; Sticky Toffee Pudding; Cheese platter with biscuits, followed by Coffee and tea with chocolate mints. Alistair and his team did an excellent job, which was appreciated by all present.

In the response to the toast to Grand Lodge, David Winder again passed on the Provincial Grand Masters best wishes and wished Carl a happy year as the newly Installed Master. He also gave his own congratulations and best wishes, commenting that he was very pleased that he had been able to witness Carl’s installation, as he had been in attendance at all of the other ceremonies that Carl had passed through during his Masonic career. He also commented on the harmony within the Lodge of Endeavour and the very charitable gifts donated by the Lodge. He made special mention of the excellent work in the Lodge by the Director of Ceremonies and the members who presented the working tools. He concluded by wishing all present a safe and peaceful Christmas.
