Dover Lodge 443: Chapter 567
January / February 2011
I was putting the final touches on this month’s Governors message and I was getting very frustrated. You see, I had shoulder surgery the week before Christmas and trying to type left handed started to really get to me. With every missed keystroke (and trust me, there were a ton of them) I would get madder and madder and started to feel sorry for myself. Then somewhere in the middle of my little pity party it hit me: I was sitting in a warm house surrounded with all the comforts a man could want and I had the gall to complain about a minor inconvenience while all around us there are people wondering how they are going to face the forgotten months. Sure we all jump through hoops to make sure families are fed at Thanksgiving and that kids get toys at Christmas, and that’s exactly what we should do. However the giving seems to slow down considerably after the holidays in the forgotten months of January and February. And that’s the time charity is needed the most. With this in mind, we have many events planned in the next couple of months to help those in need, from our annual can drive to benefit the local food pantries to meat raffles benefitting Make a Wish and our local schools to a benefit for Dover Youth Sports. So come on down, get involved and let’s do what we do best, help our community and those in need when they need it the most.
Fraternally Yours

Thanksgiving Dinner 2010
We held our second annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the community this year. It was a great success. We had thirty members of the community come down and enjoy a home cooked meal. Every one of them left happy and full. We had a bunch of volunteers and want to thank you all. You all did a wonderful job and we had a great day!

The Tree Lighting
The first Annual Tree Lighting fund raising event was held in Dover. It was held at the City Hall Auditorium with about 22 local businesses and organizations participated. The lodge thought it would be a great event to participate in. It was!
Mike Dean picked up the tree earlier in the week. Dolph, Steve, Tom and Rocky helped put the tree in the base on Thursday night. On Friday, Rocky D'Andrea, Steve Moynahan, Ken Wolfe and Ron Maxfield took on the task

of getting the tree to City Hall and decorating it... Oh yes..... it was a sight to behold! Mind you, that's four different decades of volunteers (70's, 60's, 40's 30's).
There was a silent auction held and our tree garnered $150. Our tree did not win the competition, but I’m sure we were close. We also donated $500 to the event in order to fund the lights for next year!

Quote
“Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!
This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!
I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!”
William Arthur Ward
