Do you feel that your parents work against you sometimes?

Did you experience a less that supportive atmosphere at home when you were growing up?

Do you still feel the need to please your parents, even at the expense of fulfilling your own true wants and desires?

Did you often feel like you were in the parental role as a child, having to take care of your parents because of their problems?

Do your parents still treat you as if you were a child?

Were you, and are you still, afraid to assert your own opinions, rights and needs in front of your parents?

Do your parents control you with threats or guilt, or manipulate you with money?

Do you feel that no matter what you do, it's never good enough for your parents?

Did you often feel confused as your parents denied their destructive behaviour, even though the truth was staring them in the face?

Did you always get the blame, whilst your parents frequently abdicated their own personal responsibility?

Were you and your siblings encouraged to compete in an unhealthy way?

Was their always an elephant in the room that you were unable to discuss at home, and warned not to reveal to the outside world?

In a society that has bought into the 'myth' of the perfect family, people often find themselves unable to untangle the patterns of behaviour they experience within the home.  Without understanding and clarity those destructive patterns are automatically repeated as you continue to operate with them in present and future relationships.

I can assist you in achieving more clarity, and ending destructive patterns that are sabotaging your relationships. Where an emotional or physical separation is necessary, I can assist you in coming to terms with this, and moving on with your life in a positive and emotionally healthy way.

If you have read TOXIC PARENTS by Susan Forward and Craig Buck, you might require expert support whilst you work through the exercises and ultimately confront your parents.  If you have not read this book I highly recommend the text, to enhance understanding, attain some validation for your thoughts and feelings, feel a sense of connectedness as you discover you are not alone and to build your strength and commitment to begin living your best life, free of the contaminating influences of Toxic Parents.  Further guides I have found useful are, Alice Miller 'The drama of being a child: The search for the true self', 'The Truth will set you free' and 'For your own good'.

If you would like to book a private session with me to discuss your needs in the above areas please contact me HERE.

The preliminary work is being completed to arrange for a support group for adult children of Toxic Parents in Southampton.  If you are interested in joining us please let me know.
