Welcome to Mr. Daniel's IB History at Littleton High School.
This is a one year course focusing on Modern European history. It serves as the course for a standard level (SL) certificate course in history for the IB or the introductory year for the higher level (HL) history required at Littleton to test for the IB Diploma. The first semester we will be covering the Enlightenment through the Congress of Vienna. second semester will cover roughly 19th Century Europe until the interwar years of the early 20th century in Europe.
Given the depth of history we will be covering each semester, it is essential that you attend and participate. This means participate in the fullness of the word. Do the readings, answer the reading guides, ask the questions you may have about the material. This means completing all assignments and homework on time. There will be both textbook and primary source readings that you will need to do outside of class. You will also be expected to ask questions when you do not understand or are uncertain about material we are covering.
My expectations for your work are high. All of your work should be on time, thoughtful, historically accurate, grammatically correct, and well organized. I will be available outside of class to answer questions and discuss comments during my off hours and lunch. I encourage you to stop by with questions. I am happy to give you comments for revisions on work turned in ahead of schedule.
The IB program is a challenge, This will be a rigorous course, it will be intellectually and academically challenging. But you should complete this course confident in your understanding of history and prepared to test either for the SL at the end of this year or with the senior level course to test for the HL then.
My hope is that at the finish of this course you will have an appreciation, if not an out-right love, of history.
