I started learning fine lettering as a junior student at Smith College under the direction of Barry Moser. Working from instruction manuals and from original manuscripts in the Mortimer Rare Book Room, I first learned the Carolingian Minuscule, then the Gothic hand, and finally the Italic Cursive. Since then, I have explored various bastard scripts and flourishing techniques which I continue to practice and explore. I am drawn to the decorative nature of the Gothic, but prefer an airier, open hand, and one that is easy to read. The script I developed for my own use, and my favorite, can be seen in this image.
Currently located in the Maryland – Virginia – D.C. area.
