We join the events of the New England Hillclimb Association and started our first event at Okemo in 2014.
The goal is to go as fast as possible up a closed road. The car needs to be equipped with a fire extinguisher, window breaker, air horn and drivers must wear a helmet at a minimum. If you are going faster than a determined time (called the breakout time), you need to have a fully caged car, firesuit, racing seats/harnesses and a neck restraint system. But you can get started in a completely stock car without special equipment (besides helmet/fire extinguisher/window breaker/air horn).
Check out the SubiMods beginner's guide to NEHA hillclimbs.
All the rules and regulations are available on the hillclimb.org website.
Starting in 2016, an official rally class has been added for rally logbooked cars. Unlike other classes where only the fastest time counts, all runs are counted as stages in the rally class and they are cumulative. We will be running the 2016 season in the rally class!

The New England Hillclimb Association runs events at 4 different mountains every season and Mt Washington every 3 years when possible.
You can get NEHA hillclimb Art featuring all the different hillclimbs with the cutout of the roads and evelation changes from the Frog Racing store.
Going up the Mt Philo state park road, this is the shortest hillclimb of the season at about 1 mile with a summit under 1000ft. Very narrow road, barely more than the width of the car, leaving little margin for error. You will get a lot of short runs and you'd better keep it on the road!
Mt Ascutney State Park can offer the longest hillclimb of the regular season if the full length of the road is used (aka Ascutney Long Course) but it we cannot find enough volunteers to man the mountain, we run to traditional finish (2.8 miles vs 3.6 miles). The road gets really bumpy after the bridge and requires a relatively soft suspension to absorb the bumps.
Okemo is the 2nd longest hillclimb of the regular season (2.7 miles) with some very fast sections favoring high horsepower cars. The asphalt has been degrading over the years leaving some chunky sections with very little grip to offer. Many drivers get caught up in the famous turn 29 that as a very deceptive looking brand new asphalt that doesn't offer any grip.
The Burke hillclimb is the smoothest hillclimb of the series and the highest mountain of the regular season (3270ft). It has some very steep sections favoring cars with a lot of torque.
The Mt Washington Climb to the Clouds hillclimb is the oldest hillclimb in the USA and the highest hillclimb in New England. The next edition will be on Aug 7-9, 2026!
You can support the Women in Motorsports hillclimb Art at Mt Washington or the club organizing the event with our Climb to the Clouds 3D Art .
Margaret is the current holder for fastest woman driver at Mt Washington, see her onboard below:
Pikes Peak is the most legendary international hillclimb running up the Pikes Peak road in Colorado, USA. We got the chance to run an Audi S1E2 replica prepared by RayTeam Motorsport at Pikes Peak 2025:
One of the best ways to discover how a hillclimb works and see the action up close is to volunteer at a hillclimb. You can also get a ride in a race car during the fam run!
Since 2016, the rally class has been officially added to the NEHA rules. Attached to this page are pace notes that can be used as is or as a support to write your own pace notes.
The Jemba pace note system is described here: http://www.jemba.se/notesUSA.htm
