Leete Family DNA Research

The start of a discussion on DNA results used for genealogical research is to educate yourself. You need to know:

  • terminology,
  • methodologies,
  • benefits,
  • result interpretation,
  • and limitations.

Although the various companies that offer DNA analysis, such as 23 and me and ancestry.com, have help pages on their results, they material is written with a bias toward their product. Fortunately, there is one web site that provides a good education: https://www.yourdnaguide.com/. Another summary that will jump start your understanding is http://smithplanet.com/stuff/gedmatch.htm. You can also find youtube videos on this topic in my channel: eGenealogy.

In general, there are two companies that have the bulk of the DNA analysis market: ancestry.com and 23 and me. To view a youtube video comparing these two companies, click here. Which one should Leet(e)s use to connect with each other. I prefer the ancestry.com version just because I am providing all the family trees in ancestry. This gives a direct graphical representation of how two people might be related or are related. But, for pure DNA research, it doesn't matter which company you use, because the best way to manage DNA analysis is through GEDMatch.

Actual research results for the Leet(e) family in North America will be linked to this page as information comes in. Generally, the links will be to PDF files that discuss the analysis and the results. So, please submit your findings to me, Duane Leet, at leeteleetlink@gmail.com.
