Summary
This year’s Brownie Fun Day was held at the Montrose Scout House from 4-7pm. The scout house had many rooms and spaces for our Brownies to enjoy especially the fire pit and the bridge/stream. It was held on St. Patrick’s Day so we decided to make our theme around that. We budgeted a bit higher than the previous years to allow for extra costs for supplies and to hopefully earn money off the event. We had about 50 girls attend.
The girls decided on stations with various skills (science, arts/crafts, music, outdoor skills, games. One of the most popular stations was the slime station and the rainbow surprise (edible rainbows and pot of gold). We were fortunate to have a Celtic dance group come to do a demonstration for free (in exchange for promotion of their studio).
Troop parents provided many of the donations toward the cost of the event such as chips, napkins, and station supplies since there was a cost for the rental fee, dinner, patches, and some supplies. We were also able to get a big discount off Chicken Stars at Carl’s Jr. With their donations, we were able to earn about $3 per girl.
The scout house was a great place to hold the event but it is expensive ($165). It was also not possible for the girls to come see the place without another reservation so it made it hard for them to visualize where things would be.
Overall, we had great feedback about the event and our girls had a great time hosting.
