Laz vs. OERFCCCCCC Tue 26 May 2015

Morning fellow Laz men, unfortunately Freegard is too busy at an international tupping event in Sweden to write the report and has asked if I can hash something together about last nights event.

Please see my Hashing’s below…

Last night saw our victorious run for Laz continue, played on the lush and verdant greenery at Abbots Leigh CC. The format this week was proper night cricket with 40 overs of play and an unusual caveat of batsmen retiring at 25 – although with hindsight 10 or 15 would have been more suitable. Laz batted first, Timbo again opted for power at the top of the order with Freegard, Chalmers and (Erm) John Mann all contributing. Mann triggered by the oppo umpire ‘old smoking gun himself’ then we saw what was perhaps a laz first – Freegard holding his bat not once, but twice in the innings. A score of 150 plus looked likely until Chalmers was talked out by his own team mates and Freegard (a changed man since the injury to his Rectus magnanimous several weeks ago) had to retire after some lusty blows. Jiff also contributed, although his black armband signifying the death of New Zealand cricket was found to be putting off the opposition bowlers…

Smaller contribution from the middle order and a last man stand saw Laz creep to 126 all out in the final over.

As the wind began to swirl, it was the mighty Elizabethan’s turn to bat – or the OERFCCCC as they are affectionately known.

A slow start for the OERFCCCCCC as good fielding, tight bowling and impeccable backing up in the field saw the oppo being restricted to solely missfields and overthrows. Buzz bowling from the preferred Milf end completed 4 overs of left arm bowling and took 2 wickets and Jiff again bowled at a lively pace to keep the opposition guessing. Again two inspirational tactical decisions by the skipper turned the game around. Firstly, taking the opening pair off and secondly employing someone to set free those three ducks that had been kept in terrible conditions by the softballers at the back of ground. This proved to be a cunning decision and distract the oppo enough for Clapperton to take three wickets in his first over - rarely have we seen such a quick return to form.

Good bowling from Kunal, Fraser and Jiff at the end saw the opposition 15 runs short and the mighty Laz roll on

A great start for Laz continues in 2015 – Champagne for the winners – Baby Cham for everyone else
