Remembering

William Lashly

We have been investigating the life of William Lashly for almost 50 years. In 1990 we visited the Antarctic on the Ocean Princess to celebrate the anniversary of his birth

In December 2012 we produced a limited edition of William Lashly - a tribute, a fully referenced study of his life, to distribute to family, friends and Antarctic associations and set up the first William Lashly website and, later, a Facebook page.


In 2013, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Williams safe return on the Terra Nova we, published The Life and Advenures of William Lashly, a small, inexpensive biography with a foreword by Jeffrey Evans.

A small group of relatives of William Lashly and their friends gathered at Discovery Point, Dundee on August 3rd 2013 to share information and celebrate his life.


In 2019 The Captain Scott Scott Society based in Cardiff organised the fixing of a memorial plaque on William's Cardiff home.

2017 marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of William Lashly. A second special event was held at Discovery Point and an updated second edition of William's biography was published.


In the same year, George wrote a research paper about William for Cambridge University's journal The Polar Record and a limited edition of a “smiler” GPO commemorative postage stamp was designed and printed and made available to family and friends.
