Kunal Narayan Chaudhury

I am an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), where I lead the Lab for Imaging Sciences and Algorithms. My research lies at the intersection of computational imaging, computer vision, and machine learning, with a strong emphasis on nonlinear optimization, inverse problems, and algorithm design. I currently serve as a Senior Area Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters and have previously served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and as a Senior Editor for the SPIE Journal of Electronic Imaging.

I have been a faculty member at IISc since 2014. Before joining IISc, I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics at Princeton University (2011–2013). I received my PhD in Computer, Communication, and Information Sciences from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2011, my ME in System Science and Automation from the Indian Institute of Science in 2005, and my B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University in 2003. During this period, I worked on wavelets, applied harmonic analysis, nonlinear filtering, and distance geometry, focusing on the theoretical foundations and algorithmic aspects of imaging and signal processing.

My research interests span signal processing, computational imaging, optimization theory and methods, and machine learning, with particular focus on developing theoretically grounded and computationally efficient algorithms for sensing and reconstruction problems.

I teach Linear Algebra and Its Applications and Advanced Convex Optimization at IISc.
