Candidates explore, evaluate, synthesize, and apply methods of inquiry to enhance learning and improve performance. Indicators:

• 1. Theoretical Foundations - Candidates demonstrate foundational knowledge of the contribution of research to the past and current theory of educational communications and technology.

  2. Method - Candidates apply research methodologies to solve problems and enhance practice.

  3. Assessing/Evaluating - Candidates apply formal inquiry strategies in assessing and evaluating processes and resources for learning and performance.

  4. Assessing/Evaluating - Candidates design and implement assessment and evaluation plans that align with learning goals and instructional activities.

  5. Ethics - Candidates conduct research and practice using accepted professional and institutional guidelines and procedures.

How I apply this standard in my professional practice.

I have often applied research and evaluation methods in the past in both professional and academic applications. During my job at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, we used survey techniques to assess the success on our online continuing-education programs. I designed an online questionnaire in Qualtrics that allowed veterinarians to complete a survey after they finished an online program. The data collected from these surveys helped to design and implement future continuing-education programs.

I've also applied research methods as a graduate student in the past as well. I completed a masters degree in mass communication at K-State and I completed research as a student that utilized online questionnaires designed in Qualtrics. My research looked at how to design messages in online tutorial videos targeted at cattle producers. My research was published in my thesis as well as in an online journal. Also, as a student working on a degree in instructional technology, I have written research papers that demonstrate that I have an understanding of past and current research related to educational technology and videos.
