How I apply this standard in my professional practice.
In my jobs as an educational technologist and as a digital media specialist, as well as in my coursework, I have often demonstrated this standard in my work. In courses such as ELPS 718: Human Performance Technology and ELPS 814: Design and Development of Online Learning, I have created plans for improving learning based on the appropriate learning strategies taught in the classes. For one class, I created a plan to educate instructors about the use of a media production studio space. For the other, I was part of a team that created a plan for an online version of ELPS 712: Instructional Media Development. These plans set up assessment processes to evaluate the learning outcomes of the plans, as well as the management of technology and resources needed to carry out the plans. These projects demonstrate the application of this standard.
In my previous professional career as a video producer, I have often demonstrated this standard as well. In my job in the Center for Online and Distance Learning at the University of Kansas, I often help instructors select and use appropriate video production styles and methods for online and flipped classes. I walk them through the type of videos they can produce and how they fit into their online courses. In addition to this experience, my previous job at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine allowed me to manage the college's online continuing-education program. In this job, I managed the media creation and posting of content for the system designed to help veterinarians from diverse backgrounds get required continuing education. I also oversaw the implementation of a new content management system for the program, which required me to implement and assess the adequacy of different technologies. As this shows, I have often applied this standard in my professional and academic work.
