2012 KrAIS Research Workshop

POST- ICIS 2012

LG CNS/KrAIS WORKSHOP ON

Digital Innovation in the Service Economy

Orlando, Florida USA - December 19, 2012

Along with the rapid expansion of information economy and electronic networks, IT plays an even more significant role in the service economy not only in fostering innovation in the service sector but also in transforming the entire economy from industrial to post-industrial service. Much of this transition comes from the contribution of IT to service sectors and from IT as service. As such, IT in the service economy becomes a vibrant topic to the IS community.

In conjunction with the 2012 International Conference of Information Systems (ICIS), Korean Association for Information Systems (KrAIS) will hold its third Post-ICIS LG CNS/KrAIS Research Workshop immediately after the conference in Orlando, Florida USA. We cordially invite you to submit your paper to the workshop. We are particularly interested in original research work on a broad range of topics on digital innovation in the service economy. However, we welcome papers on any topics related to information systems as the Workshop is not restricted to any specific topics.

We solicit original research and technical papers not published nor submitted elsewhere. Doctoral students and junior faculty members are especially encouraged to submit their research. Student papers will be given special consideration. Selected high quality papers from the workshop proceedings will be invited for a possible fast-track publication in the KMIS’ flagship journal, Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems (APJIS).

Scholarship for Students:

Through the generous financial support by LG CNS, the KrAIS will award scholarship (US$500 each) to four students. The program co-chairs will select four student papers based on reviewers’ comment and recommendation. Special considerations will be given to those who are the sole or lead author of the paper.

Background:

As a chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) serving AIS members with Korean heritage, Korean Association for Information Systems (KrAIS) aims to promote the scholarship by its members. Any Korean scholars and professionals - both domestic and abroad - who are interested in the development, management, and use of information and communications technology are encouraged to participate.

The objective of the KrAIS Research Workshop is to provide a forum where its members can exchange ideas and information and promote possible collaboration among its members. In particular, the Workshop will focus on helping graduate students and junior faculty improve their research and develop scholarship through close interactions with peers and senior faculty. The workshop will help graduate students and junior faculty publish their research in top-tier scholarly journals and effectively move their careers forward.

Another important objective of the Workshop is to improve the reputation and the impact factor of the KMIS’ flagship journal, Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems (APJIS) through citations and publications.

Important Dates:

Submission Deadline: September 30, 2012

Notification of Acceptance: October 31, 2011

Workshop: December 19, 2012

Submission:

Authors are encouraged to submit either complete research or research-in-progress paper complying with ICIS 2012 formatting requirements (http://icis2012.aisnet.org/Files/template_submissions2012.doc). All submissions must be either in English or in Korean. If you want to submit paper in Korean, please submit a two-page extended abstract in English as well.

The 14 pages must include all text, figures, tables, and appendices. The cover page, abstract, keywords, and references are excluded from this page count.

Research-in-Progress Page Limit Requirements:

Research-in-progress papers must not exceed 7 single-spaced pages and must conform to the ICIS 2012 submission template as per the instructions document. The 7 pages must include all text, figures, tables, and appendices. The cover page, abstract, keywords, and references are excluded from this page count.

Authors who are interested in participating in the workshop need to submit paper by September 30, 2012 to Jahyun Goo (jgoo@fau.edu) and Sang-Yong Tom Lee(tomlee@hanyang.ac.kr). Submissions will undergo a blind review process. All authors should agree to provide timely reviews of at most two other submissions, if requested.

Format of Workshop:

In order to facilitate in-depth discussion and exchange of ideas, the Workshop will feature roundtable sessions where five to six authors briefly present their research for about 10 minutes each, followed by questions and discussions. Tables will be organized based on research interests and will be led by two senior scholars who will serve as mentors. All participants are expected to have read all the papers for the table prior to the workshop so that the discussion will focus on how to improve the paper. All participants may choose to present or discuss in Korean or English as most KrAIS members are bilingual. However, separate tables will be assigned to the members who can speak only English.

Time and Venue:

The Workshop will be held from 1:30 pm to 6 pm on December 19, 2012 in the ICIS conference hotel. Immediately following the Workshop, the KrAIS business meeting and dinner will be held from 7 to 9 pm. We ask current and future KrAIS members stay an extra day to support the new initiative by KrAIS.
