Introduction
As you've already seen, below each grammar and vocabulary video you have required assignments to complete in the Online Spanish Workbook which are directly related to the target grammar/vocabulary topics in the videos above. These must be completed by the end of the chapter's due date. Additionally, directly below these required exercises in the Online Spanish Workbook, you will also find some optional activities that, when completed, will also help you to solidify your knowledge concerning the target Spanish topics. Additionally, all of the assignments below should be completed as part of chapter 11.
Other Assignments for This Chapter:
11.4.2 Reading--Complete this reading assignment to sharpen your reading comprehension skills around the topics in this chapter. This assignment is not timed and can be attempted twice. You can also read the required article on pg. 251, "Nota Cultural".
11.4.3 Writing--This writing assignment comes from page 245 C. Paso 2.
–Los años estudiantiles, ¿una época maravillosa? -- Con frecuencia se oye a las personas mayores hablar de los años universitarios con nostalgia: años de libertad, sin responsabilidades, sin las tensiones propias de la vida laboral y familiar. ¿Ves tú así la época universitaria? Escribe sobre este tema. Para hacerlo . . . choose ONE of the question topics below (either 1,2,3 or 4) to answer:
1. ¿Sufren muchas presiones los estudiantes universitarios? ¿Por qué? ¿Qué les causa estrés?
2. ¿Son más divertidos los años universitarios que los años de la escuela secundaria?
3. ¿Te preocupa a ti el costo de la matrícula? Para ti, ¿es difícil pagarla?
4. ¿Piensas tú que la vida va a ser mejor después de graduarte en la universidad? ¿Por qué sí o por qué no?
No length requirement! Your response can be short if it answers the question well. Responses shouldn’t have to be much longer than 100 words. Since this writing is much less demanding, the written Spanish rubric will be divided by 2.
It is a good idea to copy and paste your text from Word or some other program that allows you to make accented characters (if you need help making accent marks on your computer, try my accent marks in Word page). Paste your text from Word into the text box provided in the 11Writing Ch.11 Writing Activity evaluation activity..
11.4.4 Evaluation activity--This evaluation activity is designed to summarize all of the objectives for this chapter. This assignment is timed and can be attempted twice. Your performance on this activity should give you a good indication of how well you have learned this chapter's content.
Please see the rubrics page to view the ways in which your writing, speaking and other assignments will be evaluated.
Remember, before the end of the term, you need to complete:
-Listening Exam --Study and prepare here
-Story Bird Assignment (click here for an example) or Portfolio assignmnet (see the syllabus). See the "Rubrics" page in the "Other" tab for the evaluation rubrics for these assignments!
-Also, start reviewing/sign up for the Oral Interview. See the oral interview rubric here.
-Finally, prepare for the Final Exam by reviewing the mock exams (mock exam 1 and 2).
Weekly Assignments:
Twitter--As always, please send a tweet with the tag #RoughRiderSPA102 (not case sensitive) in the body in which you highlight, very briefly, the grammar point that was the most confusing or most difficult for you. This tweet can be done in English. Here's an example of what you might tweet:
Hola #RoughRiderSPA102 the toughest topic this week was 6.1.1 saber vs. conocer . I realize that they both mean "to know" but I'm still having trouble using them correctly.
This is designed to allow me to follow along with the trends and feelings of the class. You get points simply for participating in our Twitter conversations. It should be something that you can complete in a matter of just a few seconds.
Lingt Language--You've likely been involved in discussion boards before on Blackboard. Well, Lingt is an audio discussion board. It allows us to have discussions about topics we are studying in Spanish using a microphone that's connected to a computer. Respond to this chapter's prompt on the Lingt website. Try to shoot for 45 seconds to 1 minute recording times (include details).
