We are living in the closing days of the earth and we need to understand what is required on our part so that we can prepare ourselves for the last time events. We rely on the government for making arrangements for our food or water supplies and other necessary things for our living. When there happens to be any catastrophe or natural disaster we can do nothing more than waiting for help from government agencies, although the government plays it's role and duties, we can not solely rely on it when the magnitude of the catastrophe is more than what can be managed. We have developed dependency not only on the basic necessities of life to be provided like food, water etc. but also on the modern life style, which include electronic gadgets, electricity, supermarkets etc. In any natural disaster, all the basic necessity things as well as the electrical supplies are the most affected, and in any such scenario, we should be ready to deal with the shortage of the elementary things. When we think of or read of any such incident taking place, we think it will never happen to us, and image of the catastrophe in our mind is that taking place in remote areas, where tribal population lives. We live in the comfort of our modern homes, it can not happen here, right? Unfortunately, that is not true, we can face a calamity anywhere in the world. The recent earthquake of Japan is an example that caused severe damage, March 15, 4 days after the disaster, 850,000 households (nearly 2 million people) were without electricity in freezing weather and another 1.5 million without running or drinking water. Many supermarket shelves were empty. There were 2 km (1.2 mile) long queues / four-hour waits at some gas stations. Some people have been forced to live hand-to-mouth, surviving on shared instant noodles, rice crackers and rice balls.
How can we prepare ourselves to be ready to face the last time events? Disaster wears many faces. It can be a hurricane, a flash flood, an earthquake, tsunami or a financial crisis. Surviving and thriving during adverse events takes more than a vague idea of 'doing something, going somewhere and waiting for the government to take care of me.' Surviving a disaster takes planning and preparation. During an emergency, all levels of government may be overwhelmed with managing the crisis. Government help may not reach you and your family for days. Being able to meet your basic needs for at least a week is a sensible course of action. Logically and intelligently, a person will consider to try the following basic survival tips to be ready to face any natural or man-made calamity:
Preparing an emergency kit. The kit should keep you self sufficient for three days or longer if emergency personnel cannot reach you. A basic survival kit should include water, non-perishable food, a first aid kit, flashlight, radio, batteries, a cell phone and charger and local maps. It can also include important family papers, a blanket, a can opener, a dust mask, towelettes or hand soap, and a whistle. While not a food item, medical subscriptions can also be included.
The immediate needs of you and your family are air to breathe, water to drink, a warm and secure place to stay, nutritious and easy-to-prepare food to eat, and the ability to stay in contact with others. Stocking up on face masks, storing at least one gallon of water per day per person for a week or more, having the materials and skills to repair a damaged roof, maintaining enough nonperishable canned and packaged food and the means to prepare it, and keeping your cell phone charged at all times can work wonders in making life bearable and safe until help arrives.
Have spare cash on hand, enough to operate for a week or more. ATM's will not work without electricity, leaving you without funds. Point-of-sale cash registers won’t work for the same reason.
Consider keeping your land-line telephone in case of an emergency, because cell towers are often swamped with traffic or may get damaged in a disaster.
One can prepare a basement in the home where necessary things, food items etc. can be stored for use in emergencies.
There are certainly occasions where it makes practical sense to make preparations for the future. However, it is our attitude towards the same, that it is important.
In the Old Testament we can see from the dream that Pharaoh had that the Almighty wanted Joseph to advise him to prepare for a forthcoming famine to keep the people from starvation (Genesis 41:15-41). In accepting Joseph’s Almighty-given advice, Pharaoh saved his people from starvation.
It is right and sensible to make preparations for the future, but we must be careful not to place extraordinary confidence in those preparations. Yahushua’s parable about the prosperous business man who wanted to build bigger barns for his crops is an example.
And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? {Luke 12:16-20}
The rich man was looking to his riches for his provision and security. There was nothing wrong, in principle, with his building bigger barns. Where his attitude was wrong, was by placing his confidence in himself, without acknowledging the Almighty in his plans. After all, it was to the Almighty he needed to be thankful for the increased crops he had, and it was His wisdom he would need for how he would spend his wealth. But he never consulted the Almighty, and his life was taken before he even had a chance to spend or use what he had hoarded.
We should not get absorbed in the thoughts of providing ourselves with food, shelter, goods etc. because Yahushua has assured us that our Heavenly Father knows about our needs.
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? {Matthew 6:31}
For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. {Matthew 6:32}
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. {1 Peter 5:7}
Most of the talk on preparedness these days focuses on food, water, emergency medical supplies, sleeping bags and similar items. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s limited to the scope of being ready for things that happen when we are alive. But this life is just the blink of an eye in the larger perspective of spirituality and the survival of the conscious soul. As journeys into the afterlife have revealed to us, there is an afterlife beyond this life, and our actions here on Earth are judged by the Creator.
We all focus on the survival of our physical bodies here on Earth, but relatively few people consider the survival of their eternal souls beyond this realm. It may appear strange because the world beyond this life is actually far more REAL (and eternal) than this life here on Earth (which is often described as a 'training ground' or a 'simulation' or a 'dream'). Whether we live or die through the next Earthly preparedness crisis, the truth is that we all pass on to the afterlife sooner or later.
According to nearly every true religion as well as many well-documented afterlife experiences, upon our passing beyond this physical world, we will be judged according to the decisions and actions we pursued during our lifetime. This judgment will reflect the degree to which we have lived our lives with love, humility, compassion and other fundamental traits of virtue. Those who have lived lives primarily dominated by the pursuit of greed, power and deception will be judged in a negative light (or darkness, as it were).
Belief in the afterlife, is not a requirement to be judged in the afterlife. Regardless of a person’s beliefs during the Earthly lifetime, they are nonetheless judged according to their free will actions. Denying the existence of the Creator, in other words, does not in any way provide a 'free pass' for one's behavior on Earth.
Furthermore, there is no spiritual entitlement program whereby souls are automatically handed out benefits that they did not earn. Each soul must earn it's own outcome, and in order to determine that, the entire lifetime of actions for each individual is recorded as a spiritual record. This record is much like a log file of every action, decision, experience and thought that a person had during the life. The totality of this record reflects the virtue of the true character.
We can not correct the time that has passed in our life but we need to repent of the mistakes and sins committed, and be watchful as the time passes by, praying and living life with all humility, keeping by the commandments and word of the Holy Scriptures. We should practice the same on daily basis and should not get moved by the thought that we have done our part, or it is enough now and should be sufficient enough for us to be judged positively.
There is no point, in other words, where it is okay to stop acting with love, compassion, humility and service to others. Such a personal philosophy of behavior should become a permanent feature of our day-to-day living if we truly seek redemption. Because to depart from that dedication is to invite evil into our life and soul.
Likewise, evil which is knowingly and consciously committed cannot simply be washed away with an equivalent act of good. A person can not say that 'I will be good throughout the week, and commit anything wrong once a week and then ask for forgiveness. Since I am doing more good as compared to doing wrong, the average will still remain highly good.' That kind of 'gaming the system' may allow anyone to fool oneself, but it doesn't fool the Almighty.
Similarly, there are some members of the Catholic Church who commit sins every week and then ask for forgiveness via confession, with the intention of committing the same sins the following week. The idea that church is a place where a person can dump one's negative karma and then proceed to engage in the same self-destructive behavior with a kind of 'spiritual free pass' is flatly false.
At the same time, living a life of evil and destruction and then asking for forgiveness on the death bed, the moment before a person expires is also not sufficient to redeem the soul. That is why we would all be wise to start a program of spiritual preparedness right now if we are not already living one. Each day that we have remaining in our life here on Earth is a day we can use to earn a position one step closer to the redemption of our souls.
Some who are already engaged in a lifelong routine of compassion, love, humility and working in the service of the Creator can expect to be judged as 'worthy souls', complete with whatever rewards are deserved. Others who are on the right path might need many years of service to work off the spiritual debt they owe due to the destructive behavior earlier in life.
Here is a list of the steps that can help us in our spiritual preparedness to be ready for the Judgment Day:
1. Recognize there is a Creator and that the universe is not an accident
If there exists an art, there exists an artist, if there exist a poem, there exists a poet, if there exists a music, there exists a musician, if there exists a creation, there exists a creator. Nothing in the universe exists by chance or by accident, not even the universe itself.
He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion. {Jeremiah 10:12}
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water. {2 Peter 3:5}
We did not evolve from animals or apes, we were created, we do not exist without purpose or meaninglessly, we are instructed to prepare ourselves for heaven.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. {Genesis 1:27}
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. {Matthew 6:33}
To understand the truth presented in the scriptures, we look at it with scientific point of view. Our physical world consists of three dimensions, which we are able to interpret by our senses, as see, hear, smell, taste and touch. We can not see air, but the effects of air blowing can be observed on the surroundings as on the tree leaves, dust etc. or felt by our skin. We go one step further, and there exists gravitational force, only the effect of which is seen as objects being pulled down to the surface of the earth. We proceed one step further, and there exists Electro Magnetic Force, which can not be seen, the effects of which are unseen and can not be sensed by our skin, but it does not mean that the force does not exists. We are able to detect the unseen forces by using technologically advanced instruments. If we proceed further (where the modern day science is beginning to explore) we will realize that there exists dimensions beyond three dimensional physical world, which are of non-physical nature and similarly exists creation of non-physical nature. Similarly, there co-exist infinite universes of multi-dimensional nature, in parallel with our universe, and thus, the 'multiverse' and the creation is created and owned by our Creator. We can understand and appreciate the same by having faith in Him and His words.
These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens {Genesis 2:4}
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. {Hebrews 11:1-3}
To deny the existence of a Creator is to deny one's own true origins (and therefore to deny oneself). Embracing the existence of the Creator and the magnitude of what has been created around us (the entire physical universe) is the first step towards spiritual preparedness.
2. Admit the ethical failures and ask for forgiveness
As humans, we have made mistakes in judgment and action. This is part of the human experience, we must, however, admit our failures (sins) to the Almighty, ask for
forgiveness, and then earn that forgiveness through dedication to virtuous actions.
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. {Proverbs 28:13}
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. {Psalms 32:5}
3. Pursue a life of virtue
This is the next step after forgiveness: Earn the life by honoring the universal laws of virtue and love.
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD. {Jeremiah 9:24}
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. {Galatians 5:14}
Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. {Romans 13:10}
4. Embrace humility
Arrogant souls do not fare well in judgment before the Creator. Humility is the only appropriate posture for a spirit granted the opportunity to experience the profound experience of life as a human being. Only someone who does not understand who they are and how they came to be can live with arrogance and pride. No soul focused on pride and egoism can achieve redemption.
Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off. {Psalms 138:6}
5. Disconnect from the distractions that pollute the mind
There are many so-called 'soul traps' that attempt to prevent us from achieving spiritual preparedness. Those traps may be chemical (alcohol, recreational drug use, psychiatric drugs, etc.), behavioral (addictions etc.) or even cerebral (television addiction, worshipping false belief systems, etc.).
Soul traps must be overcome through conscious recognition and effort. No one can do the work for us; each individual soul must overcome it's own soul traps and transcend the weakness or vulnerability that previously held them back. For example, a person who finds himself addicted to alcohol must overcome that addiction through personal choice and deliberate action in order for personal growth to occur. To achieve the same, seek the Almighty, ask Him in prayers to provide the strenght to overcome the addictive habits, and more importantly, have faith in Him and His words. He has assured that those who seek Him honestly shall receive the rewards, which we are not even worthy of.
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. {Matthew 21:22}
Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. {Psalms 119:2}
6. Shift focus away from material wealth
The pursuit of material wealth is immature and demeaning to our soul. To live a life focused on the pursuit of such wealth, and to seek to 'show off' such wealth to others is a sign of an immature soul. Preparing our soul for judgment means casting off the pursuit of materialism and instead focusing on achieving non-material personal growth that simultaneously serves the greater good of the universe. While money itself is not evil, and it can be used to help raise awareness of others, the pursuit of money for the sake of material wealth is a great cause of the failing of many earthly souls.
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. {1 Timothy 6:10}
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. {1 Timothy 6:7}
7. Practice compassion for all living things and serve in the protection of life
Along with arrogance usually comes a disregard for the conscious experiences of others. To be considered a soul worthy of pious status in the afterlife, we must open our heart and practice compassion for others. Importantly, this does not merely mean giving away material wealth and attempting to 'buy' our way into Almighty’s good graces. The heartless distribution of money is no virtue. Real compassion is found in teaching others, mentoring others, educating them and providing personal assistance in ways that transcend mere money.
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. {1 Peter 5:5}
A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels. {Proverbs 1:5}
8. Eat for spiritual clarity
Consume foods from Mother Nature, not from synthetic laboratories. The consumption of synthetic processed foods is a sin in the eyes of the Creator. This is because Mother Nature has already placed foods for nourishment all around us. To deny the value of those foods (plants, fruits of the Earth, etc.) is to deny the gift of life on this planet and all that it entails. Rejecting foods made by nature and instead consuming foods made by Man is actually a worship of Man: Genetically modified foods, chemical sweeteners, artificial colors, and so on. As our body is made up of what we consume, thus we can say that we are what we eat, this not only apply to our physical being but also has a significant effect on our thoughts, thinking process and hence in turn applies to spiritual being also. Therefore we should be wise enough in selecting what we consume and try to consume the food in as natural form as possible.
9. Study the scriptures
Practice studying the scriptures on daily basis. It may appear difficult to understand them at once, but once started and gradually over time, we will find it relatively easy to understand and comprehend. Start with prayers before attempting to read the scriptures and the Almighty will help us in our way. The scriptures are provided by the Almighty Himself to help us find our way to worthy living and salvation. Without studying and following them, we will keep wandering in the darkness of ignorance and of our own foolishness. Studying and meditating on the scriptures will not only help us in preparing for the judgement, but will also help us in building and establishing faith in the Almighty which is of importance in these last days.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. {Acts 17:11}
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. {2 Timothy 3:16, 17}
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. {Romans 15:4}
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. {Romans 10:17}
10. Help raise the awareness of others
It is not enough to merely raise our own level of spiritual preparedness; true redemption involves helping others find their path to redemption as well. This does not mean arm-twisting the people who are not ready to embrace reality. It’s far better to meet people where they are spiritually and then invite them to explore new directions when they are ready. This effort might consist of creating content (articles, videos, etc.), mentoring someone in need and so on.
No matter where we are on the spectrum of redemption, it is wise to start now moving in the right direction, because we honestly don't know how many days we even have remaining in our life on Earth.
The bottom line is that we must seek the wisdom of Almighty in matters of preparation for the future, He promises to grant wisdom to all who seek it, and He never fails to keep His promises.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. {James 1:5}
Prepare your physical body to survive the physical world; and prepare your soul to survive the spiritual world.
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. {Matthew 16:24}
