St Michaels Mount

St Michael's Mount

The Long-Lost Land of Lyonesse, said to be off St Michael's Mount, and possibly stretching as far as the Scilly Isles. Ancient stories tell of a member of the Trevelyan family who, from the safety of a cave at Perranuthnoe, is said to have witnessed the terrifying spectacle of the land being engulfed by the sea.

There are the remnants of a sunken forest around Mounts Bay and, lending further credence to the story, is the old Cornish name for St Michaels Mount, "the old rock in the wood".
