About my surname سمعان Sima'an.
I am of Palestinian origins, citizen of the Netherlands.
I was born in Haifa and have been living in Amsterdam since August 1989.
My parents are forced-displaced refugees who managed to remain in their own homeland:
My father's Christian-Muslim village Suhmata in the Galilee, obliterated in 1948 (the Nakba). More about Suhmata, here and here
My mother's Christian village Kafr_Bir'im in the Galilee, obliterated in 1948 (the Nakba). Watch this documentary and this documentary
An interesting term describing the status of (internally) forced displaced Palestinians like my parents and myself is present absentees.
Most of my parents' family members are in the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon since 1948.
