From the movies...Afterall, isn't this the "real reason" we all got involved with this sport?

Once upon a time, way back when, there were "real fencers" in the movies. Thanks to Jeffery Simons, who found this clip, you can see what good footwork and drilling can do for you!

So you think a bigger sword is better? Watch closely at one of the reasons the light weapon superseded the "elongated axes" of broadswords and claymores etc. (Oh those persnickety foils fencers can be so irritating) Rob Roy: Final Duel

Once again, size means nothing in our sport. Even back in the olden days of yore, it's what you do with what you got.

One of the best referenced fight scenes that's loaded with the one liners we all love to say:

As an aside: here's a link to the Fencing Language used in the fight scene: "You are using Bonetti’s Defense against me, ah?"

And here's a real good example of training versus bravado. The proper technique trumps good looks every time.

This has been referenced as "the best movie sword fight ever." Remember that back then, there was no "digital enhancement" that made actors sword fighters. All they had was a theatrical swordmaster (usually a world class fencer moved to Hollywood) and a lot of rehearsals with stunt training. Enjoy!

The bravado and spirit of our sport takes one to the heights of fantasy. Here's an Adidas deodorant add: Ya gotta love it!

Of course we love our sport because we get to kill and "Die Another Day" much like this scene from the Bond movie.
