Student outreach

My group built an augmented reality sandbox following publically available instructions. We use this sandbox as a teaching and demonstration tool.

One of my group members also worked with the Singapore Science Center in their development of the Earth Alive exhibit, to assist with constructing and calibrating their sandbox.

I provided advice on the development of the interactive tablet game Earth Girl Tsunami and helped to demo it in local schools.

I have given various talks to both primary and secondary classes. One of my favorite demos for earthquakes is a balloon - blowing in to the balloon represents the progressive addition of strain due to plate movements, and the inevitable POP represents the earthquake! Fun, but terrifying.

I have given talks to teachers at both university and secondary level to discuss teaching strategies both within geosciences and more broadly.
