Kubuntu 26.04 is the KDE version of latest LTS ubuntu
I give up. Im officially leaving ubuntu/kubuntu. This was the last attempt to get it to install. To be clear. LUKS2 does not work with (k)ubuntu. They can claim it is supported but that is not true. none of the installers will work anymore--at least you used to be able to hack the install process.
for the last few years the kubuntu installer has crashed when it sees luks2 encrypted drives or just been unable to handle encryption in general. That is still the case. the install mostly finishes but crashes after boot loader install (attempt?). even when not using encryption the installer crashes but not after installing into nvram which trashes the boot on the system since the system refuses to boot --even when using other methods to access the boot part.
The device '/dev/nvme0n1p8' is mounted in the target system. It is mounted at '/tmp/calamares-root-d9ycwudh/boott'. The device could not be unmounted.

hardware seems fine--working better than the latest kernels in 25.10. the touchpad for example has been really flakey for the last few mnths. same with 26.04
