Class date : 04/27/14

Classwork:

  • Today we revised 'Shiddhachakra'.

  • We also learned about Soul and its 4 inherent qualities namely Infinite Knowledge, Infinite Perception, Infinite Happiness and Infinite Energy.

  • We also learned that Logassa was composed by Guru Gautam Swami and it is the prayer to all 24 Tirthankars by name.

Homework:

1. Byheart 2 stanza (uptil 'chandappaham vande') of Logassa sootra (Sutra # 9)

Class date : 04/13/14

Classwork:

  • Today was Mahavir Janma Kalyanak Day (Chitra sud 13). We revised what we had learn about Janma Kalyanak and what is Snatra Pooja.

  • Currently Ayambil Oli is going on and we also learned about how we cannot eat 6 vigai namely milk, curd (yogurt), ghee, oil, deep fried items and sweets during aymbil. During this 9 days of Aymbil Oli we are doing the arathana of Siddha Chakra and we learned about the 9 pads of the same. We also learned how King Shripal and Mayana-sundari got benefited by doing this Oli.

  • In our last class we had learned to make swastika (sathio) and in this class we learned that it represents four gati (states of existence), three dots denote three 'jewels' of Jainism namely Samyak Darshan, Samyak Jnan and Samyak Charitra. We also learned that the crescent moon above the three dots represents Siddhashila (resting place for liberated souls).

Homework:

1. Book 203 Chap 2.6, Read pg 38( Soul)

2. Read Book 202 Story # 16 King Shripal and Mayana-sundari and write its moral in few lines.

Note: Next class is on April 27. Please make sure you complete all the previous homework also if not already done so.

Also, we will be celebrating Mahavir Janma Kalyanak Day on April 20th starting at 9:45 am. Please wear puja clothes and come. Everyone attending this puja will be awarded 5 extra jain bucks.

Classwork:

  • We learned about Darshan vidhi and practically went to the temple and followed all the steps that we learned during the class.

  • We also learned how to make 'Swastika'.

Homework:

1. Book 203 Chap 2.5, Read pg 36-37 ( Swastika)

2. Book 203 Workbook Chap 2.4, complete pg 14-15 ( Derasar & Idols)

Classwork:

1. We learned about Jain Temple and Idols (Chap 2.4 from Book 203)

2. We also had lot of fun listening to the story of Mahavirswami. His birth and childhood (Chap 3, pg 49 - 52, Book 203)

3. Given paper showing 'Steps to follow at Jain Temple' and 'Maun Ekadashi story' However was absent please collect it from in next class.

Homework:

Parents, Please go through the 'Steps to follow at Jain Temple' with the kids. We will be

performing 'Dravya' puja (except first 3 Ang puja) and do Bhav puja (step 16 in the paper) in the temple during the class of March 16th. Please bring Rice, Sweet and Fruit.

We are not giving any new homework but expect everyone to know Annattha Sootra from last class.

  • we learned about Tirthankar Naam karma with King meghrath's story. We learned about Sthavar and Jangam Tirth. We also learned in detail about 'Shatrunjay Tirth' .

Class date : 02/02/14

Classwork:

  • We learned about Tirthankar Nam Karma, Samavasaran and Kalyanaks.

  • We also learned about the importance of ‘Honesty’ through the story of Woodcutter.

  • Learned Annattha sutra.

Homework:

1. Read about King Meghrath strory(Book 202, Pg 67-69) and write Moral of the story.2. Book 203 workbook - complete pg 11,12,13.3. Memorize First 7 lines (2 stanza) of Annattha sutra (sutra# 8).

Classwork:

In our last class we learned about Soul, Karma and classification of Livingbeings.

We also learned about the importance of 'Maun Ekadasi' through the story of Suvrat Seth

Homework:

1. Read about Kalyanaks (Book 203, Pg 32) and list them in your notebook with expanation in one line for each.

2. Read about Deceit/Honesty and story 'The Honest Woodcutter' from book 203, pg 84 - 87. Also write the summary of the story in two -three sentences.

3. children how did not memorize 'Iriyavahiyam sootra' and 'Tassa-Uttaree sootra' please do it now.

Class date : 11/24/13

Classwork:

1. Importance of Thanksgiving for us (jains) and what should we do.

2. Book 203, Chap 2.1, we learned that Jainism is a way of leaving our life, a philosophy. We now know that it is not just what we do when we come to temple but it shows us how we should think, speak and act in our day-to-day life.

3. Three main Principles of Jainism are

Ahimsha (non-violence)

Anekantavada (multiplicity of view)

Aparigraha (non-possessiveness)

4. We also learned about 'Kartiki Purnima' or 'Dev Diwali'. Jatra to Palitana starts on that day. Also lot of sadhus achieved Moksha from Palitana on that day. We give 21 khamasaman to Palitana picture on that day. Also, all Sadhu - Shadhvi's that are staying at one place for last 4 months of rainy season will start to travel (vihar) to other place on that day.

5. We also learned from our own examples that how anger is bad for us in this life as well as coming lives.

Homework:

1. By heart Sutra #4 (Ichchhakara) and Sutra #5 (Abbhutthio Sutra).

2. Book 203, Read Chap 2.6 'Soul' (pg 38-42)

3. Book 203 Read and write summary of story 'Hare and the Tortoise' (pg. 79-81)

4. Complete Book 203 workbook pg 8,9,33,34,36 if not completed.

5. Write down your own example starting from today till you come to the class on Dec 15th, an incident when you really was about to get angry but you remembered how bad it was for yourself and others, in this life and coming lives and so you controlled yourself and did not get angry or did not show your anger.

6. Also, extra 3 points will be given to however did at least half an hour of Navkar Jaap in the Temple on Thanksgiving Day.
