Hello and Welcome to my digital portfolio! My name is Jennifer Peairs and I was a Science Teacher and Robotics mentor at Monticello High School.
In high school, I was hired by Narbonne High School to be an after-school tutor. This sparked my interest in enriching minds and helping them have a better understanding of classes that the student struggled in. I became a teacher not to be praised or recognized, but to help students reach their goals. As a science teacher, the difficulty lies with keeping students interested and understanding concepts that are intangible. So, I try my best to apply science topics to real life. It is always a great moment when a student has an "Aha!" moment. Seeing how they are able to put all the puzzle pieces together and succeed in my class is what I strive for. There are other times when I have felt that teaching is not about what grade the student gets in my class, but about having a relationship built around trust and understanding to see what other problems they are having that is not helping them succeed in my class. The relationships between myself and my students play a big role in how well the student does in my class.
On this site, you will get to know a little about me; how I approach teaching; sample lessons; sample student work; and my course websites. Hopefully, navigating through this site will help you have a better understanding of who I am as a teacher. My goal is to highlight the strengths that make me a passionate, efficient, and useful addition to any teaching team.
Enjoy!
