Shelby Cobra Replica

For several years in college my biggest passion was cars. I wanted to learn about engines and mechanics, and I also really wanted to build something big and cool. When a mechanic at a local shop told me about FactoryFive I knew I had to try one.

The project involved stripping and restoring the running gear (5.0L engine, transmission, suspension) from a 1988 Ford Mustang, and integrating it into a custom Shelby Cobra replica chassis (designed by FactoryFive).

I made a few modifications to the basic design of the kit:

• 3-link rear suspension (cut away some links and ran that diagonal bar)
• Added a vacuum booster for brakes (had to cut and re-weld the frame)
• Relocated the emergency brake to the left side

Aside from cleaning and restoring the drivetrain these mods took the majority of the time on the project. Here's an album with some highlights from the project, which mostly took place over summers during college.
