New York City demonstrates how rapid life can be. As I walked cross-town to meet up for a few drinks, a young woman in stiletto heels passed me going in the same direction. Given that I was walking briskly by Texan standards and she was a tiny 5'2", her overtake was to my chagrin. The intensity of both New York and its inhabitants is unique and intimidating. After visiting other major US cities, the speed of the city that never sleeps is simply unmatched. New York also holds an intimate knowledge for its denizens. How to get a cab at 6pm on a rainy weekday? Where to find the best pizza in town? What in the world does this mean?

Poker Update: Will play my final poker tables this weekend
Unfortunately as a traveling man, you only get a glance at the inner workings of different cities and ecologies, but one thing you learn quickly is how to get around. In Houston, it's automobile. In New York, it's taxis, subways, and lots of walking. In Wyoming it can be mountain-biking or just floating down a river. I can't believe the different modes of transport I've used so far, but here they come in chronological order:
My Hyundai Accent (leaving Houston)
A limousine (around Sonoma with Lindsay and Scott)
A rental car (to Ad Hoc restaurant in Napa)
Walking (around San Francisco & San Jose)
Escalators & moving walkways (around Vegas)
Shuttle bus (through Zion park in Utah)
Wading (through a river in Utah)
Hiking (into Bryce Canyon)
Floating in a tube (down Snake river in Wyoming)
Biking in downtown Jackson (after drinking no less, thank you Mr. Beltz)
River boat (up and down the Chicago river)
Greyhound bus (from Albany to NYC)
Taxi (around the Big Apple)
Subway (to Times Square)
High-speed train, Acela (to Boston, see video below)
Today I arrived back to my hometown, Boston. A few days with family will be my last respite before turning my car south and completing my travels early next week. While in New York I had the opportunity to see my favorite person (Samantha, picture on right) as well as several others. Thanks to Kristi for some refreshing spiked lemonade and Steve for relaying my car from Albany.
