Martin, Henry FHC Film #007645188 Scan 138 of 512. 1659 Document is full of tears/holes but essentially these two pages were dealing with the assignment of a servant named Henry Martin, son of Henry Martin a coachman in London, from John Withey in London to his son Augt. Withey in Rappahannock VA. for an 8 year contract under the guardianship of ships master Thomas James. When they arrive in VA Aug. Withey was dead and the servant Henry Martin was sold by Thomas James. After Thomas James returned to London, he paid John Withey in full satisfaction and renounced all claims and rights.

CHARLES SNEAD, of Rappa Co., 1933 acs, in sd Co. on the N side there 20 Oct 1666, p. 539 (660). Mention of Jno. Paine, Maj. Jno. Weire, David Warrin, adj. properties. For trans. of 3 persons: Henry Martin named along with other people at the bottom of the Patent. The 1933 acres was made up of several different grants to total 1933 ac. with the date of one of them being 21 April 1657. (Abstracted Patent found on Ancestry.com Patent Book 5, Page 567, Scan 600 of 797).

KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I ROGER CLOTWORTHY for a true Valuable consideration in hand paid and contented therewith: have bargained & sold & doe by these presents bargaine and sell for Ever from me and my heires unto CHARLES SNEAD and his heires & assigns 360 acres of land being parte of a Patt of 553 acres formerly the said Charles Sneads and by him sold unto PHILLIP SHERWOOD and by Sherwood sold unto JNO. MARTYN and from Jno Martyn sold unto me Roger Clotworthy and my heires as by his Deed may appeare on Record dated the 7th of Octobr 1661 the said land lying on the North side Rappa. River aboute a mile from the River side begining at a marked oake neare Rappa. Path and runing thence E 130 p N E 212 p N.W 197 p So W 320 p S.E. 91 p neare the path to the place begann To Have and to hold the said three hundred and sixty acres wth all rights to him the said Charles Sneade and his heires for Ever in as full ample manner as may be collected out of the said Pattent and the said Roger Clotworthy and LIDIA his Wife doe grant for ym:selves theire heires and assignes that they will keep harmless the said Charles and make acknowledgmt in the County Court of Rappa of this their Act and Deed and give Livery and Seizin according to Law the said Charles Snead his heires and assignes discharging such Quitrents and any other taxes that shall be imposed on the said land according to Law. In Wittness whereof I Roger Clotworthy & Lidia my Wife have to these putt our hands and seales this 29th day of Augst 1666

THIS INDENTURE made this fourth day of May in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty four, Between LARKIN CHEW of the Parish of Saint George and County of Spotsylvania, Gent. of one part and HENRY MARTIN of the Parish and County aforesaid of other part; Witnesseth that LARKIN CHEW in consideration of the sume of five shillings to him in hand paid by HENRY MARTIN the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, hath and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto HENRY MARTIN his heirs all that three hundred acres of land bounded, Begining at a red Oak the upper corner of WILLIAM LYNDSEY standing on the River Bank, thence along the said LYNDSEY's line North thirty four degrees East two hundred poles to three white Oaks on a Ridge, thence North twenty degrees West one hundred and ninety poles to a white Oak, thence West eighty poles to a black Oak by a grassy Branch, thence South fifteen degrees West thirty poles to five corner trees on North side of PUNCH POINT BRANCH, thence down the Branch it severall water courses to the point to Mr. HARRY BEVERLEY's corner on PUNCH POINT by the RIVER PO, thence down the River its severall water courses to the place it first began situate in Parish and County aforesaid together with all rents and profits of the premises, To have and to hold the tract of land and premises with all appurtenances unto HENRY MARTIN his heirs from the day before the date hereof during the full term of one whole year from thence next ensuing paying therefore the rent of one ear of Indian Corn at the Feast of Saint John the Baptist if lawfully demanded to the intent that by vertue of these presents and of the Statute for transferring uses into possession, HENRY MARTIN may be in actuall possession of the premises and thereby enabled to take a grant of the release of the inheritance to him and his heirs, In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written, LARKIN CHEW

- The Last Will and Testament of HENRY MARTIN, deceased being exhibited in Court it appears to the Court that JOHN MARTIN, an Infant, the Son of JOHN MARTIN. deceased, is under age prescribed by Law to appear before this Court as Heir at Law to the deceased to shew cause why the said Will should not be proved, and EDMUND WALLER being on this occasion appointed his Guardian, who answered that he had no objection to offer against the probate thereof in the said Orphan's behalf then the said Will was proved by the Oaths of MARTIN TRUE and ROBERT TRUE, two of the witnesses thereto, and JANE MARTIN., BENJAMIN MARTIN and MARTIN TRUE the Executors therein named having given Bond and taken the Oath as the Law directs, Certificate in due form of Law is granted them for obtaining Letters of Probate, And it is ordered that EDWARD HERNDON, THOMAS HAYDON, WILLIAM PROCKTOR and CHARLES STEWARD, JUNR. or
