Looking across from the old penguin pool (BUGS in the distance)

Close-up of the new rock work
Access ramp with some of the distinctive original walls visible and incorporated into the design
A peep into the service yard
The work is apparently on schedule and it is interesting to try to work out which parts of the terraces are being kept. Personally I am not keen on the 'street scene' theme that is explained on the ZSL website but who knows? It might work well. I think it is possibly going to be sited in the top right location but it is quite difficult to work it out from the plans.
I look forward to seeing the project completed. It will be the third lion enclosure I will have seen at the zoo and I have a feeling that this one may not be redeveloped significantly in my lifetime.
Postscript.
Having visited after completion, I have mixed feelings about this exhibit. Too much non animal staging for my liking but a strong conservation message. The lions were still using only their old area and lying in their usual place which is almost out of sight. A trip across the old walkways should be interesting at that height but there is little to see, especially if the langars are at ground level. Hopefully they will make some changes as over all, the exhibit is disappointing.
