December 2024
Very pleased to have my Bognor chimps article published as the lead article in December's edition of the well respected 'Keeper Contact' magazine.
October 2024
Another successful talk at the Bognor Regis Local History group, this time with greater focus on the origins of Hotham Park and early resistance to its attractions.
May 2024
Lots of zoo visits completed and highly recommend the new reptile exhibit at London Zoo. I've had another article published and thanks published for providing photos for another book. Also very excited to have found, at long last, a photograph of the Zootopia (ex-circus) zebra

Happy New Year to you All
October 2023
Thank you to everyone for making me so welcome on 15th and all the very kind comments about my presentation.
September 2023
Booked to give a presentation on Bognor's Zoo by Bognor Regis Local History Society on 15th October. Please check their website for details about my illustrated talk.
September 2022
A whole year has passed and there is not a great deal for me to post in news - family and work life both busy and I am pleased to report that the Bison book is still selling a few copies every month. I have topped up my zoo visits and can wholeheartedly recommended the lovely Hamerton Zoo in Cambridgeshire for a good half day visit.
September 2021
New school year and a new official photo. It was a 'one shot and you're done' job but I think the photographer did the best she could with the subject matter she had.
December 2020
I'm delighted to read a review of my new book 'A Beginner's Guide to the Barbs of Asia', on a Norwegian fishkeeping website which ends, 'this book is a long awaited addition to current aquarium literature.' I've always thought the Norwegian fishkeepers knew their stuff!
The book is available on Amazon for about £19 but if you would like a copy, pleas email me and I will be able to send you a copy at a more reasonable price (about £12.50 including postage, which I think is good value)
November 2020
This is becoming habitual, thanks to Terry for his acknowledgment in his Windsor Safari book.
June 2020
I'm pleased to have been given honourable mentions in two recent publications; one for help and advice with a novel, the other an article about the old birds of prey aviaries at London Zoo.
September 2019
Very pleased to have had an article about the soon to close London Zoo Aquarium published in the Bartlett Society Journal.
February 2019
Delighted to win an award for 'Best Nature Book of 2018' from an American company, Eagle Books. Now I know who in America was buying the book in batches of five.
I believe they are based in Detroit; Motor City and home of Motown! Detroit Zoo also participates in 'National Bison Day' and has its own pair of eleven year old bison.
December 2018
Good review in Keeper Contact which recommends the book without reservation. Unfortunately Paul Irven who reviewed the book spotted a spelling error 'Kivirondo' rather than 'Kavirondo' crane but this has now been corrected. Ironically, Paul made a spelling mistake and typing error in the review - which just goes to show that no end of proof reading can completely eradicate errors!
October 2018
The book is now published but it will be another 4 weeks or so before it is picked up by Amazon and the other retailers. I have a few 'thank you' copies to send out to those who were particularly kind in helping with its preparation. Look out for a book review in Decembers 'Keeper Contact' Magazine. I withdrew the first edition in July, although some places still have it listed. The second edition clearly says that's what it is and the new cover is green.
August 2018
The second edition is complete and the proof copy has gone off to the publisher; 107 pages with over 70 new images. Hopefully it will come back alright and can be released next month. Recommended price looks like it will be £16.99.
July 2018
I'm working on the second edition of the 'Bognor's Zoo' book and it's looking as though it might reach 100 pages. A number of people have been very kind with permission to use their images and there will be a section of postcards too.
November 2017
Very pleased to have been elected a Fellow of the Zoological Society of London.
June 2017
Successful talk on the Buffalo with the local MIND group; some lovely comments, thank you.
February 2017
First edition of the buffalo book has sold out to an American distributor. Second edition is due this week, price £4.95 and available on Amazon UK by 1st March. Cover is now slightly pinker, its a better colour match to the picture.
December 2016
Bison news! The new book should now be ready at the end of the month.
November 2016
Well over 100 copies of 'Bognor's Zoo' now sold and I am considering a second edition. If that goes ahead, I will make the new material available for free, so no-one who bought the first edition feels ripped off.
Enjoyed giving another talk and presentation with the Bognor Tea and Chat group this Easter (2016). The theme was 10 animals that changed the world and we covered everything from the mosquito to the lion. It's a friendly group and I am always happy to see them.
November 2015
Made it! One hundred books now sold. I am also sure I have found some pictures of Zootopia animals when they worked at Gerry Cottle's circus. No absolute proof but the dates work out fine and I have looked at over two hundred images of brown and white llamas now, without finding any that have similar markings.
99 !!!
98 books now sold. creeping closer!
HOTHAM PARK COUNTRY FAIR 2014
I will be at this year's fair on Saturday 2nd August, where copies of the book and a selection of ex-shop stock Britain's animals will be on sale. Only species that lived in Hotham park will be available, priced at £1, with 50p from each sale being donated to the trust.
BOGNOR'S ZOO...
May 2014 - 93 copies now sold... here's hoping that it will soon be 100 !
LOCAL TALKS
I gave illustrated talks to HPHT at their AGM on 24th July and Bognor Methodist's Friendship Group on 1st October 2013. I was also at Hotham Park Country Fayre, where I sold a couple of books. Book sales have now reached 72 copies and there have been some excellent book reviews.
GRADUATION AGAIN !
Graduated on 6th October 2012, with an MA in Education and Zoo History. Had a great day with the family and met up with some old friends (friends from a long time ago, not friends who are old!).
