Your goal in your journey was to discover and document sea life, but your journey at sea has been long and choppy. You look forward to finding land and getting off the boat. In the distance you spot an island, an island you have only dreamed of while seeing the miles and miles of water. With the island in sight you get more motivated and push yourself until you reach it.
In your job search you need to have an island, or a goal. A job search without goals is like traveling through miles and miles of water with no end. You see nothing and cannot envision the ultimate outcome of gaining employment. It will be important to your job search to create a goal and a vision for your future.
We have two types of goals that we can set our sights on.
Short Term Goal
A goal that you can achieve in a short period of time. (year or less)
Example: I want to get a job after I complete my 3 week JRT.
Long Term Goal
A goal that you will achieve over a long period of time. (More than a year)
Example: I want to achieve my bachelor degree in 3 years.
Activity
You will create a dream board focused on your goals. Perhaps you want to own a house, save for a car or go back to school. Think ahead 5 years from now, and with the use of your imagination and creativity, I want you to create your long term goal for all of the class to see.
