We are at the cross roads of the Via Dolorosa going east/west with Christian tourists around and the road to the Western Wall and to the mosque on the Temple Mount so there are lots of people around.
We go up to the door of the Hospice, press the buzzer and walk in. We exit the Middle East and enter central Europe. We can have an excellent Viennese coffee with apple strudel and/or Sachertorte in the garden
and then look at the paintings of Emperor Franz Joseph on the second floor
on the way up to the roof for one of the best views from within the walls of the Old City.

From here one possibility is to carry on southwards down el wad hagai street , through the tunnel to the Western Wall Plaza and the rest of the Jewish Quarter. The Davidson centre is well worth a visit. The alternative is to follow the Via Dolorosa up to the west, eventually getting to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Christian Quarter.
From either of those places you should aim to go up the Old City shuk on David Street.
