I have finished connecting the pillars together into rows such that I have 8 rows of 8 pillars. See the animated picture below for the process I took to make one of the 8 rows. I originally underestimated the amount of time it takes to do this; I expected it to take twenty minutes per row, but it really took about an hour because of the time it takes to move and reposition the jig.
I have impressed myself again with the jig system I designed and used, pictured below. It keeps everything straight while holding the wires so I can solder with both hands. It turns out that the LEGOs happen to fit the LEDs perfectly and the spacing is very nice as well.
Thanksgiving was a big stretch of time without much progress. Because of this, l am slightly behind where I would like to be, but I am really determined to have the cube functional by Christmas.
Next I need to test and connect the rows into one cube.
