Hello! In these posts I will document the progress and process of my project, highlighting any problems I face and how I fix them. I'll try my best to explain the technical stuff. Sharing my experience might help someone with a similar project, as well as giving interested readers the opportunity learn from my experience. I hope you subscribe for new posts and join me as I work to complete this project.
The cube really started from an idea I had over the summer and the drive to make something really cool with electronics. Since then, I have purchased parts and built a working proof of concept, shown in the pictures. I am happy with the design because it is expandable, and the software I wrote was designed to be easy to animate. Attached is the code for the prototype, which scrolls the 8 lights through the colors of the rainbow. Right now there are 24 cathode control circuits, one for the red, green, and blue component of each of the 8 bulbs. Later, each bulb in this prototype will be replaced with a pillar of bulbs, and instead of having 8 in total, it will be expanded to be 64, and arranged into an 8x8 grid. That's the plan, anyway.
The first few days of the term have been productive. The biggest thing was getting this website up and running. I hope you like it! I am really excited to turn my focus toward constructing the cube.
