Magnetismo ou Espiritismo? Parte I: A excelência teórica do Espiritismo

Resumo: O movimento espírita, no Brasil e no mundo, ainda utiliza o termo magnetismo para descrever alguns efeitos da ação dos fluidos sobre a matéria e, em particular, aqueles que envolvem a cura física ou a terapia através dos fluidos espirituais. Embora a palavra magnetismo tenha sido muito utilizada por Kardec, ela não é uma palavra original do Espiritismo, isto é, criada pelo Espiritismo para descrever seus conceitos ou fenômenos. Essa palavra apenas foi utilizada por Kardec e os Espíritos para fazer referência dos fenômenos espíritas a algo conhecido na época. Na medida em que o Espiritismo recomenda que nossa fé deva ser raciocinada [item 8, cap. XIX, Evangelho Segundo o Espiritismo], e que ele deve “caminhar de par com o progresso” [item 55, cap. I, A Gênese], faz-se necessário avaliar se, passados 161 anos da publicação de O Livro dos Espíritos, a utilização do termo magnetismo representa “caminhar de par com o progresso” do conhecimento. Essa análise consiste da primeira reflexão a respeito do tema feita no movimento espírita. Propomos duas ações: 1) evitar o uso da palavra magnetismo e 2) esclarecer sua prescindibilidade sob a luz do Espiritismo. As principais razões são: i) no ponto de vista científico, a palavra magnetismo se refere apenas ao fenômeno material da interação entre cargas elétricas que se movem umas com relação às outras; ii) no ponto de vista espírita, é possível verificar que os termos e conceitos próprios da Doutrina Espírita são suficientes para a explicação de todos os fenômenos espíritas. Veremos que Kardec já tinha consciência da inexatidão do uso da palavra magnetismo é a só a utilizou em função da aceitação da sua época, o que não existe nem ocorre em nossa época atual.

Abstract: The spiritist movement in Brazil and around the world still uses the word magnetism to express the effects of the action of the fluids on the matter, including the the spiritist phenomenon of cure. Although the word magnetism was very much used by Kardec in the spiritist books, it is not an original spiritist world, i. e., it was not created by Spiritism to describe its concepts or phenomena. This world was only used by Kardec and the Spirits to refer the spiritist phenomena to something known at Kardec’s time. As Spiritism recommends: 1) the rationalized faith [item 8, chapter XIX, The Gospel According to the Spiritism]; and 2) that the spiritism should be “marching hand in hand with the progress” [item 55, chapter I, The Genesis], it becomes necessary to evaluate if after 161 years from the first publication of The Spirits Book, the use of the term magnetism represents or not to be marching hand in hand with the progress of the knowledge. This paper analyses that and proposes first to avoid using the word magnetism in our spiritist movement. Second, to clarify, in view of the importance of the rationalized faith, the dispensability of this term in the light of spiritism. The main reasons for that are the fact that the world magnetism, nowadays, only reflect the phenomenon involving mineral magnets, and that in the spiritist point of view, it is possible to verify the excellence of the spiritist theory in explaining all the spiritist phenomena using only its own terms and concepts. We will see that Kardec already knew that the world magnetism was inappropriate to describe the related spiritist phenomena, but have used it because it was an accepted world at his time, what does not happen anymore in our times.
