Research scope

My research focuses on ecohydrology oriented to the multivariate analysis of extreme events, such as floods and droughts, under human-driven climate change conditions. I am also interested in climate/human impacts on water and natural resources at different spatial and temporal scales. I work in Colombia, a country that is considered among the top in biodiversity and water and natural resources; that is highly threaten by the impacts of climate change and human activities; and that is in need of strengthening its research and scientific community around these subjects. I currently advise master and doctoral students at Universidad de Antioquia (Colombia), on topics that involve intensive mathematical computation and fieldwork such as the uncertainty and non-stationary analysis of rainfall-runoff models using Bayesian networks; agent-based dynamic of systems approaches to ecosystem resiliency in tropical-Andean environments under climate change scenarios; the impacts of climate change on irrigation districts and reservoir operation; the analysis of air quality issues in mountainous areas; and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions based on lifecycle assessments.
