Colorado nature and landscape pictures, North America, and Jura sceneries, Switzerland.

What to say about landscape pictures ? One loves it or not, it touches us or leaves us indifferent. The main thing is to come up with an idea, to observe the subject, the colors, the shapes, the atmosphere. Then let your imagination wander. Good trip.

Autumn

This time of the year seems gloomy for many human beings, it brings back the morning fog, and reminds us that cold and snow will soon be back, but in the wild, it's a busy time.

Autumn is back... There is a profusion of berries, fruits, and seeds, and wildlife is in full activity, some getting strength before their long migration, others are building body fat, which is crucial to get through several months of hibernation, others are storing food in caches, allowing them to relax for the winter, and others are full in mating period, engendering the next generation which will be born the next spring. As for the plants, they are slowly falling asleep, some are going to die, but not before liberating their seeds, which will germinate the following year, and others will loose their leaves after varnishing the landscape with yellow, red, and orange, letting us discover the Indian Summer.

Winter

Winter is hell and paradise for the photograph, hell because contrasts are often to pronounced and violent (sun and snow), the colors are missing, and cold and moisture easily deteriorates photo material; paradise because it’s the best for black and white and monochrome photography, a universe of shadows and relief’s in a nature that appears to be asleep, but if you put some seeds and fruits in your garden, various creatures will soon show up.

Pikes Peak

At 14,110 feet (4233 m.), Pikes Peak is one of the 54 Colorado fourteener summits.

The Ute tribe is the oldest group living in Colorado and they call themselves Noochee (the people), the Uncompahgre band of this tribe gave this stricking mountain the name of Tava.

Members of the group went there to look for special stones (the area is rich in crystals of all kinds). Others would climb to the summit for a vision quest, alone for four days without food nor water. One can still see some trees with arched trunks that people formed and used as altar for sending prayers to the creator and to the nature spirits.
