The CCVA is the only international entity that offers the professional credential for volunteer administrators. Certification serves as a third – party endorsement of knowledge and experience against industry standards in volunteer administration.

The primary focus of a CVA certification program is on providing an independent assessment of the knowledge, skills, and/or competencies required for competent performance of an occupational or professional role or specific work-related tasks and responsibilities. Certification also is intended to measure or enhance continued competence through recertification or renewal requirements.The CCVA promotes and certifies excellence in volunteer administration to advance the capacity of communities to effectively engage volunteers. They developed the following core ethical values of those who mobilize, direct, and motivate volunteers:
