Although we technically didn't end up covering the making of instructional videos in the course, I learned how to make my own screencasts from Joshua Junkermeier with the Screencast-O-Matic web app. I used it to instruct my students on how to officially migrate their paper interactive notebook system over to a Google Drive portfolio system instead.
I'm still having some doubts about whether to officially go paperless with my students if only because there is research to point to the sense of ownership and engagement that students can develop when working with tangible materials rather than virtual ones (Ma & Nickerson, 2006). Still, a debate to be had at another time.
