Jaguars Fight Hard Under New Coach Phil Reynolds
Thomas Jefferson brought back former head coach Phil Reynolds for a second stint as the head man, and the pre-season enthusiasm instilled form the previous Jack Garrity era was still very much intact. Coach Reynolds, having served under Coach Render of Upper Saint Clair for many years, had high expectations of his return to the place where he got started. The team had high hopes of returning to the playoffs with returning players such as three year starters Jeremy Maxa and Brett Adams, as well as other starters like Jonathan Roesch and the speedy Mike Yablonsky.
Coach Reynolds brought with him new offensive and defensive systems that the team would need to adjust to, but they just did not get to the level of efficiency needed to secure wins.
Offensively, they were led by Brett Adams, Mike Yablonsky, and a solid offensive line led by Roesch and Maxa that at times were able to score points, but would then have dry spells due to inconsistency. Other contributors were first year player Ken Machesky, CJ Ferraro, Buddy Shaffer and Justin Siemon who led the team with 4 touchdown receptions. Eric Keith would take over for the graduated Brandon Adams, and continued a building tradition of strong quarterback play in addition to the traditionally strong offensive lines.
Defensively they were led by Jeremy Maxa, as his dominant play continued from his middle linebacker position. He recorded 20 tackles in the McGuffey game. Jeff Bono, a super sophomore played well from his safety spot, and contributed with a few terrific returns in the kicking game.
The season was not the best of seasons in TJ lore, but the team played hard, completed their season at 2-8, and nearly upset the #1 ranked AAA team in the WPIAL McGuffey during week 8 which demonstrated the Jaguar Machine played hard until the end. However, the season ended poorly versus West Mifflin, and later Phil Reynolds resigned.
