The 1990 season marks the first year for Head Coach Jack Garrity, and his first season as a head coach in his career after 19 years as an assistant at Steel Valley. Getting a late start to implement the rigid off season conditioning regimen Coach Garrity and his coaching staff require, and the lack of seniors on the team made for a tough start.

The seniors that were holdovers from the Bill Englert coaching change were hard workers, and eager to step up to the challenge of the new coaching staff. Starting the season in the early summer, the team had great turnouts for the conditioning program and a certain cohesion began to form on these warm, muggy evenings.
With the years of less than stellar Thomas Jefferson football seasons compiling, one would think the cupboard was bare, but the exact opposite was true. The Jaguars had their starting senior quarterback, Gabe Galioto, returning, along with a great nucleus of hungry to win seniors and juniors. The season would also see junior Scott Lawry establish a new school record for receptions.
The season ended with a continuation of the losing seasons at 2-8, but the record this season did not feel like the 2-8's of years past. The Jaguars were in many of their games, beat a highly ranked Charlie Batch led Steel Valley team, and showed a determination and enthusiasm that had not been seen around the school in a decade.
