Back as the manager of the Sunbirds for this second straight year is 30 year old Gary Cunningham. Long known as an innovative and colorful manager, Gary is known for some famous trick plays and used some of them last year. He plans once again to implement them into the Sunbirds playbook for 1978.
Gary led the Sunbirds to a very successful season last year as they reached the WPSL playoffs for the second time in two seasons. Cunningham is a former San Jose State University baseball star and was drafted by the San Diego Padres of the National league. He played a year of Triple A ball before leaving the professional ranks to play semipro baseball and fast and slow pitch softball.
"I think our pitching is our biggest question mark right now," commented Cunningham, "but I'm confident Rhonda (Ebersole) and Karen (Ambler) will do an outstanding job for us on the mound, and as far as hitting is concerned I think Sue Lindh and Mary Flint will supply the power we need."
