This page describes how to set up your operating system to record the environment at each "crash"
At present, only Debian and OpenSolaris are described.
Debian (r4.0, 2.6.18)
# mkdir /coredumps; chmod 777 /coredumps
# echo "2" > /proc/sys/fs/suid_dumpable (2=suidsafe; man proc for more details)
# sysctl -w "kernel.core_pattern=/coredumps/%h%t%e_P%pU%uG%g_SIG%s.core" (man core) -- beware that the effective length of filename should not cross 53 characters!
# ulimit -c 50000 -- user-specific, to make it system-wide do the following.
# vi /etc/security/limits.conf -- add the following line
* soft core SIZE_IN_KB
OpenSolaris
