‘Particular thoughts, concepts and theories are just that: different theoretical responses or approaches to the social totality of which they themselves are constituent aspects’ (Resnick and Wolff, 2006: 18).

This is a post-positivist statement. The notion that concepts and theories are constituent aspects of the social totality indicates that the authors do not accept the possibility of a separation between the subject of the researcher and the object of her/his investigation. Instead, theory is understood as shaping the reality, which is explored.
