BRHS Junior Advances in Piano Competition
Brigewater-Raritan High School junior Irene Koc will represent the Eastern Division of the MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) Senior Duet Piano Competition in the National Finals of the Music Teachers National Association's Senior Duet Piano Performance Competition in Las Vegas in March.
From Jan. 10 through Jan. 11, Koc competed in the Eastern Division of the MTNA Senior Duet Piano Competition with other state representatives, and won that competition to earn the chance to compete in the National Finals. The Eastern Division included representatives from 12 different states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.
Koc has been studying piano for more than 11 years, and made her Lincoln Center debut at age 8. She is a 25-time public performance winner, performing at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center; Zankel Hall and Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall; the Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufman Music Center; and the Grace Rainey Rodgers auditorium at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York City.
In 2013, Koc was invited to Hungary to perform for the Hubay Jeno Music School and the Rozsavolgyi Mark Arts School. She has also performed in the Chisholm Opera House, and is a recipient of the Cecilian Music Club Scholarship.
The National Finals competition will be held March 22 during the MTNA National Conference, and the national winner will receive a cash prize and perform in a Winners Concert.
