Jazz:

Jazz music consist of many different types of instruments. Many Brass instruments made up the sound of what was call Jazz music. When African American artist wanted to give it a twist they added piano. Vocals were an important part of Jazz music as well many white folks would travel up to Harlem to get their idea of good entertainment. Jazz was a way to escape for many black folks during the Harlem Renaissance. They looked to their music as a way to represent them selves. Using lyrics was a way to express the emotions they held in side.

Blues
During this period Blues became very popular. It is noticeably similar to gospel music but had different lyrics. Blues ranges from slow and depressing to uptempo and scandalous. For African American singers Harlem was the place to be. The first acknowledge blues recording artist who sang the blues was Mami Smith with the song "Crazy Blues".
