You may have heard of "The Harlem Renaissance" before, but did you know that there is a place in New York, called Harlem where it all began? 1920 - 1930's was a major rebirth of the African American society in America. Harlem New York was know as just a black neighborhood in New York, were many African American family joined together to create their own atmosphere. The new home they created soon became known for entertainment. It was one of the places Jazz and Blues music was born, along with New Orleans, and was home to many African American Artist that were soon exposed to all of America.
Harlem was a tough place to live, The city streched with poverty during the Great Depression, but the culture and pure passion for Arts is what saved it from being swollowed whole. People learned to entertain themselves with writing compositions of Jazz and Blues music along with the writings of poetry and the amazing art that was produced. Harlem was soon the "Hot spot" for entertainment in New York, and was swarming with all races. The avrage rich white folk was known to go to Harlem if they wanted good entertainment. It was not long until the music of Harlem was heard all across the country.
