With Dr Saloma is Metrobank President Fabian Dee.
Dr. Caesar Saloma, former Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) and Senior Ph.D. Faculty of the Instrumentation Physics Laboratory (IPL), received the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) Award for Continuing Excellence and Service (ACES) during the conferment ceremony held last January 29 at the Le Pavillon, Metropolitan Park, Pasay City. The ACES was presented to the past awardees of various excellence recognition programs of MBFI “who continuously excel in their respective professions and in the sectors they represent, thereby raising the bar of excellence through their invaluable contributions and inspiring their peers and their respective communities.”
Dr. Saloma, who received the 2007 Metrobank Outstanding Teacher award, is cited for his roles as mentor and administrator. Below is an excerpt from the ACES Press Release from the MBFI:
While at the National Institute of Physics, he mentored twenty-one (21) PhD graduates and is confident that they will contribute new scientific knowledge to improve the lives of Filipinos and better our understanding of the world. In March 2011, he was appointed Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Diliman, the main campus of the UP System. He functions as chief executive and academic officer of UP Diliman, responsible for the growth and development of more than 24,000 students and over 4,000 faculty members and administrative personnel. The UP Diliman community is large and diverse, and it is a constant challenge to make its resources—493 hectares of academic, residential, and commercial space—more enabling and responsive to the needs of its constituents.
